AN OTHERWISE normal afternoon spent in the backyard soon turned extraordinary for one resident of STKRJ Kampong Katok as he stumbled upon a suspicious steel object that was later identified as an old bomb.

According to a statement from the Royal Brunei Police Force (RBPF), the resident was digging in his backyard when he discovered the unexploded ordnance.

Police arrived at the owner’s house at 6.14pm and cordoned off the area after he called 993 to seek assistance.

Officers from the Bandar Seri Begawan (BSB) Central Police Station, members of the RBPF’s Explosives Ordnance Disposal (EOD) bomb squad and personnel from the Chemical, Biological and Radiation Explosive Unit of the Royal Brunei Armed Forces were mobilised to identify the suspicious object.

Following an examination, the EOD bomb squad confirmed that the suspicious steel object is an old bomb.

The bomb had since been removed from the premises and detonated in a safe location.

Members of the public are reminded not to touch or remove any suspicious object that they have found, and they immediately contact the RBPF at 993 or notify their nearest police station.
