THE Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports (MCYS) recently welcomed a group of 60 delegates, comprising diplomatic officers, senior officers, lecturers and trainee teachers from neighbouring Southeast Asian countries.
They are currently undergoing an 11-week English language programme at Universiti Brunei Darussalam. The visit was aimed primarily at introducing Bruneian culture to promote more understanding, in line with the Asean motto, ‘One Vision, One Identity, One Community’.
The group was shown how to put on traditional Malay headwear (dastar), and fold the short sarong for men (sinjang).
The Head Coach of Arts of the Arts and Cultural Division, MCYS, Shahminan bin Haji Mohd Yasin, expressed his satisfaction with their achievements.
The group members also took part in a traditional dance and music workshop, showcasing three cultural dances – ‘Jipin Laila Sembah’, ‘Tarian Samalindang’ and ‘Tarian Joget Baju Putih’ – as well songs like ‘Dang Mengalai’.
