THE Ministry of Defence (MinDef) yesterday honoured 87 MinDef civil service retirees at the Wira Seni Concert Hall of the Royal Brunei Armed Forces (RBAF) Band building.
Deputy Minister of Defence cum guest of honour First Admiral (Rtd) Dato Seri Pahlawan Abdul Aziz bin Haji Mohd Tamit presented certificates of appreciation to the retirees.
Among those present were members of the defence executives committee, commanders, commandants, directors, officers and staff of the Ministry of Defence as well as family members of the recipients.
The ceremony opened with a mass recitation of Surah Al-Fatihah led by Ustaz Ruslan bin Haji Sulaiman, Senior Religious Officer at the Ministry of Defence, followed by the recitation of verses of the Al-Quran by Ustaz Haji Rosli bin Haji Batang and its translation by Ustaz Haji Ariffin bin Tuah from the Religious Section, Directorate of Administration and Manpower, Ministry of Defence.

The event continued with a welcoming speech from the Chairman of the event, Nor Aidil bin Haji Abu Bakar, the Acting Director of Administration and Manpower, Ministry of Defence, and a keynote speech by the guest of honour.
Among the recipients of the Certificate of Service were Colonel (Rtd) Pengiran Dato Paduka Haji Azmansham bin Pengiran Haji Mohamad, former Permanent Secretary (Defence Policy and Development) at the Ministry of Defence and Datin Paduka Hajah Suriyah binti Haji Umar, Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Defence.
The day later saw a presentation of certificates and souvenirs for the Ministry of Defence Outstanding Employee Award 2015 to three civilian recipients consisting of an officer and two staff members of Division III, IV and V.
