THAILAND has recorded an increase of 26 per cent in the number of travellers from Brunei Darussalam from January to December last year.
Compared to 2014 where it recorded only 9,071 Bruneians, the data has increased to 11,464 Bruneian tourists.
The data was shared by Richard Lim Chew Lee, Marketing Manager for Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) Malaysia and Brunei during a seminar on ‘Amazing Thailand Product Presentation to Brunei 2016’ yesterday at The Rizqun International Hotel, Gadong.
Meanwhile, the Tourism Authority of Thailand Director of Malaysia and Brunei, Ahman Mad-adam said that the tourism industry in Thailand is trying to boost health and wellness packages.
“Thailand is a popular destination not only for families but for young travellers from Brunei who enjoy travelling to other attractive places aside from Bangkok. They even go to the northern and southern parts of Thailand for adventure and nature,” he explained.
“Aside from that, the main focus for today’s presentation is centred on our new mobile application that is ‘Thailand Muslim Friendly Destination Application’.”
The application was launched on June 22, 2015 with English, Arabic and Thai as its main languages. The mobile app provides a mobile searching tool for Halal restaurants, mosques and hotels in Thailand that were carefully selected for Muslims around the world. With this app, users can save their favourite places into their personal lists. The application can also run in a guidebook either via online or offline where the user can gain access to information they need in the area where Internet access is limited.
Those interested can download the app from Google Play or the iTunes Store or visit www.tourismthailand.org/muslimfreindly.
The app is part of a campaign to attract more tourists from the Middle East as well as Brunei, Malaysia and Indonesia.
Present during the seminar were representatives from travel agencies in Brunei Darussalam as well as Malaysia.
