THE capital was abuzz yesterday with the spirit of patriotism as thousands of enthusiastic participants gathered at Taman Haji Sir Muda Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien for the 32nd National Day rehearsal.
Witnessing yesterday’s rehearsal was the Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports, Pehin Datu Lailaraja Major General (Rtd) Dato Paduka Seri Haji Awang Halbi bin Haji Mohd Yussof, the Commander of Royal Brunei Armed Forces Pehin Datu Pekerma Jaya Major General Dato Paduka Seri Mohd Tawih bin Abdullah and the Commissioner of the Royal Brunei Police Force Dato Paduka Seri Haji Bahrin bin Mohd Noor.
This year’s celebration will involve some 21,000 participants that will be divided into 126 teams including those who will join the mass parade, field performances, flag-waving, Hadrah, choir and more.
A camera rehearsal was also held yesterday to ensure the best in capturing memorable moments, as well as to assure the quality of the live broadcast on national television on the day itself. Another full dress rehearsal will be held on Saturday, when the capital is expected to be busier than yesterday.
During a press conference that was held on February 16, Senior Superintendent of Police Haji Mohammad Hassan bin Pehin Penyurat Haji Ahmad, the Acting Director of Traffic Control and Investigation Department (JSKLL) of RBPF, urged motorists and other road users to cooperate and follow instructions given by the police personnel that are on duty. In addition, participants were advised to carpool to reduce traffic congestion in the capital.
