Board Games Weekend winners receive prizes

THE Board Games Weekend which was held at the Times Square Shopping Centre ended on a high note yesterday with the announcement of over 20 winners after a gruelling three-day tournament.

The annual event in conjunction with the upcoming 32nd National Day was jointly organised by the Brunei Chess Federation (BCF) and the Department of Co-Curriculum Education, Ministry of Education (MoE) with Times Square serving as the main venue.

Presenting the winners with their prizes yesterday was Dato Paduka Dr Haji Affendy bin Pehin Orang Kaya Saiful Mulok Dato Seri Paduka Haji Abidin, Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports (MCYS).

The chess tournament has three categories – the Rapid category with 63 contestants, Blitz with 19 contestants and Interschool Blitz with 110 contestants.

The Rapid Chess category’s top winners were Mohd Aliuddin bin Haji Azahari (Open), Aliff bin Samsul (Under 14), Badrina binti Badaruddin (U20) and Pengiran Omar Baki (Veteran).

For Blitz, the winners were Ahmad Zawawi bin Haji Mohd Huairah (Open), Voon Choon Leong (Veterans), Handoko Eko (Open), Kamarularffin bin Haji Kipli (U14) and Abdul Rahman Qadir bin Haji Norman (U10).

In addition, St John School received the Best School Award.

Times Square will also be holding more exciting activities in the near future, including the Japanese Language and Culture Week from March 18 to 20, as well as a DC Adventures Mini Carnival on March 23-29.
