HIS Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam yesterday evening joined thousands of congregants for thanksgiving prayers together with mass Maghrib and Isyak prayers at Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Mosque to mark the Sultanate’s 32nd National Day which falls today.
Accompanying His Majesty were His Royal Highness Prince Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah, the Crown Prince and Senior Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office; His Royal Highness Prince ‘Abdul Malik; His Royal Highness Prince ‘Abdul Mateen; and His Royal Highness Prince ‘Abdul Wakeel.
His Majesty was greeted on arrival by Pehin Udana Khatib Dato Paduka Seri Setia Ustaz Haji Awang Badaruddin bin Pengarah Dato Paduka Haji Awang Othman, Minister of Religious Affairs; and Pehin Datu Lailaraja Major General (Rtd) Dato Paduka Seri Haji Awang Halbi bin Haji Mohd Yussof, Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports; along with the Executive Committee Members of the 32nd National Day Celebration Committee.
Congregants also took the opportunity to greet the monarch and the members of the royal family upon their arrival.
The call for Maghrib prayers was made by Mudim Haji Matassim bin Haji Metussin, Mosque Officer at the Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Mosque.

The event commenced with mass Maghrib prayers led by YB Pehin Datu Imam Dato Paduka Seri Setia Ustaz Haji Awang Abdul Hamid bin Bakal, a member of the Legislative Council.
This was followed by the mass Sunnat Hajat prayers led by Pehin Orang Kaya Paduka Seri Utama Dato Paduka Seri Setia Haji Awang Salim bin Haji Besar to seek blessings from Allah the Almighty for the country and the people of Brunei Darussalam.
This was followed by the recitation of the Surah Yaasiin by the congregants, which was preceded by the thanksgiving prayer recited by State Mufti, Pehin Datu Seri Maharaja Dato Paduka Seri Setia (Dr) Ustaz Haji Awang Abdul Aziz bin Juned.
Later, the call for Isyak prayers was made by Mudim Haji Amran bin Haji Mohd Salleh, Mosque Affairs Officer of the Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Mosque.
The congregation then performed the Isyak prayers led by Pehin Orang Kaya Paduka Setia Raja Dato Paduka Seri Setia Haji Awang Suhaili bin Haji Mohiddin.
Mass prayers in honour of the National Day were performed simultaneously in all mosques, suraus and prayer halls across the country yesterday evening.
Today, thousands of Bruneians from all walks of life are expected to assemble in unison at Taman Haji Sir Muda Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien in the capital to observe the 32nd National Day which carries the theme of ‘Generation with a Vision’.
