MORE than 60 people were present at Weatherford (B) Sdn Bhd head office in Kuala Balai yesterday to celebrate the company’s 12th year without Loss Time and Injury (LTI).
With 4,380 days as on February 10, the achievement is very rare compared to other operations in other countries, said Eric C Malcore, the Area Manager overseeing Brunei, the Philippines and East Malaysia.
“I have been a country manager for Qatar and Iraq and a junior manager elsewhere, (but) I have never been anywhere that has more than five or six years without LTI,” said Malcore.
In the Asia-Pacific region, Vietnam is a country that has 11 years without LTI. Vietnam is one of the countries where Weatherford has base operations of more than 10 years.
It is the Bruneian culture that helped make it possible to achieve the milestone, he added.
“There are a lot of other places in the world where people are shy to stop somebody but here, I see it every day where people from the lower ranks would walk up to someone who have seniority and inform them when they’re doing something wrong,” he said.

One of the initiatives the company has taken is to award every month the employees who have submitted the most Radar Cards or the best Radar Cards.
“Employees are encouraged to fill in Radar Cards, especially when they see anything wrong,” he said, citing not wearing safety belts as an example.
“We found that the incident rates go down as the employees are constantly on the lookout for problems before they even occur,” he said.
According to the numbers provided by Weatherford Brunei, they have received over 11,964 Radar Cards for the 12-year period.
