THE Price Control Division of the Department of Economic Planning and Development (JPKE) conducted random inspections yesterday, on a number of suppliers in the Lambak Kanan Industrial Area.
The inspection team was headed by Pengiran Hajah Rosnah binti Pengiran Haji Damit, the Price Controller of JPKE.
Also present was Dr Hajah May Faezah binti Haji Ahmad Ariffin, the Deputy Permanent Secretary (Economy and Finance) at the Prime Minister’s Office.
Their main objective was to ensure that local suppliers and retailers are selling controlled goods at reasonable prices, in compliance with the regulations under Chapter 142 of the Price Control Act.
In addition, the inspections are being carried out to help local people, especially those subsisting on a low income, by ensuring that controlled items are not above the price ceiling.

Since Chapter 142 of the Price Control Act came into force, JPKE has issued around 183 warning notices and 19 compounds to several business companies.
Suppliers or retailers refusing to comply with government price controls are faced with a compound and a fine of up to $1,000 and $5,000 each, plus two years of imprisonment. Alternatively, offenders can face fines of up to $20,000, and five years of imprisonment.
