A KORBAN ceremony was held by the Kilanas Mosque Takmir Committee yesterday, which was attended by Deputy Minister of Home Affairs Pehin Datu Lailaraja Major General (Rtd) Dato Paduka Seri Haji Awang Halbi bin Haji Mohd Yussof, who handed over the sacrificial meat.
Six buffaloes contributed by 42 individuals were slaughtered for the event and their meat presented to underprivileged families residing in Kampong Kilanas.
Also present were Dato Seri Setia Haji Awang Mahalle bin Haji Abdullah, the patron of the Kilanas Mosque Takmir Committee and Haji Mohd Rais bin Haji Sabtu, the Village Head of Kampong Kilanas.
Meanwhile, over 30 members of the Brunei Darussalam National Association of the Blind (BDNAB) also received portions of sacrificial meat during a Korban ceremony held at Pusat Bahagia in Kampong Pulaie.
Deputy Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports cum guest of honour Datin Paduka Hajah Adina binti Othman distributed the meat to the recipients.
Organised by the BDNAB for the first time, the event provided an opportunity for members to form closer ties during the Aidiladha festivities. Two buffaloes were ritually slaughtered for the occasion.

The ceremony began with a recitation of Surah Al-Fatihah and Doa Selamat led by Ustaz Haji Nuurmatiin bin Haji Abu Bakar.
Also in attendance were BDNAB President Mohd Jamary bin Danggat, Pusat Bahagia officers and invited guests.
At the Kampong Lambak Mosque, 95 underprivileged citizens received portions of sacrificial meat at a similar ceremony.
The beneficiaries were from 51 heads of families, with 44 family members.
At the ceremony this year – an annual event since 1999 between the State Mufti’s Office, the Prime Minister’s Office and Royal Brunei Airlines Sdn Bhd (RB) – two cattle, 10 buffaloes and three goats were ritually slaughtered at the Kampong Lambak Mosque.
Groups of poor and destitute (asnaf) residents, from Kampong Lambak and Terunjing, were especially selected to receive portions of the meat at the event.
The occasion commenced with recitation of Surah Al-Fatihah, which was followed by the ritual sacrifice of three goats.
A recitation of Selawat Ibrahimiyyah was then read by officers from both the State Mufti’s Office and RB.
A welcoming address was later read by chairman of the ceremony, Dato Paduka Ahmad Bukhari bin Pehin Siraja Khatib Haji Abu Hanifah, the Director of Administration, State Mufti’s Office.
This was then followed by the distribution of sacrificial meat performed by Senior Istinbat Officer from the State Mufti’s Office, Dr Haji Japar bin Haji Mat Dain @Maidin.
Portions of meat were also presented to the guests at the end of the ceremony.
Also in attendance were members of the board of directors of RB, senior officers and officers from both the State Mufti’s Office and RB.
