Unemployed man to remain at fire-hit home

|     Faza Suraj     |

AN UNEMPLOYED man will have to live temporarily amongst the remains of his flame-ravaged home in Kampong Tunggulian of Mukim Liang.

The owner, Haji Alias bin Haji Ajak, 34, was not at his home when the fire occurred as he left with his friend at midnight.

The Sungai Liang Fire Brigade confirmed that they received an emergency call at 2.36am and immediately deployed a team of 18 fire personnel with three fire engines led by the Deputy Station Commander of the Sungai Liang Fire Brigade, Erang anak Japang.

It was informed that as the fire team arrived, the inferno was seen enveloping the two-storey house.

Although firefighters managed to control the fire in 10 minutes, damage was estimated at around $72,800.

Haji Alias told the Bulletin that he will stay at the unaffected concrete remains of his house for the time being.

“I don’t want to be a burden to my family members,” said Haji Alias.

The house was built by his late father in 1989, and it was rented out before Haji Alias took over. Unlucky Haji Alias only recently moved in to the house a week before the incident.

Haji Alias was an employee of a private offshore company, until he resigned because of health issues.

No casualties were reported on the incident and the cause of the fire is still under investigation.
