Sixth Literature Festival coming soon

THE sixth Literature Festival 2016, themed ‘Industri Seni Menginovasi Ekonomi’ (The Art Industry Innovates The Economy), is scheduled to take place on April 15-17 at the Sarmayuda Hall of the Language and Literature Bureau at the Old Airport in Berakas.

This was announced by Mohammad Rosma-wardini bin Haji Wahab, second year undergraduate of the Malay Literature Department at the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences (FASS) of Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBD) in his capacity as the organiser of Festival Sastera 2016, during an interview with the Bulletin recently.

According to him, the festival aims to raise awareness as well as promote the importance of literature and its activities not only to the younger generation but to members of the public as well.

He added that the three-day festival will be open for members of the public and it will also be packed with various interesting activities such as performances, sketch performances and many others.

A forum that focuses on literature and feature well-known authors from Malaysia and Indonesia will also take place during the festival.

“We will also deliver a theatrical performance as part of our Performing Arts module which is also part of our course.”

On the day of the festival’s launching, Mohammad Rosmawardini informed that there will also be a launching ceremony for the ‘Sastera Media’ book conducted by the undergraduates of the Sastera Media course. He also called upon the community particularly youths to actively participate in competitions relating to literature and be more engaged so as to foster and develop a sense of love and interest towards literature.

He hopes that the public will take the opportunity to visit the festival to further enliven the occasion and make the event a success and he looks forwards to similar festivals to be held in the future and more involvement from the younger generation in literature activities.

The Festival Sastera 2016 is organised by undergraduates of the Malay Literature Programme at UBD in collaboration with the undergrad-uates from Media and Literature as well as Malay Performing Arts module.
