THE Royal Embassy of Saudi Arabia to Brunei Darussalam yesterday hosted a reception in conjunction with the 85th National Day of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia at The Rizqun International Hotel.
Present as the guest of honour was Minister of Education, Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Kerna Dato Seri Setia (Dr) Haji Awang Abu Bakar bin Haji Apong, who was accompanied by his spouse, Datin Paduka Hajah Jahrah binti Haji Mohamad.
In his remarks the ambassador highlighted the recent challenges faced by the Kingdom including an attack on it borders as well the support given to the Palestinian, Syrian and Yemeni people who suffer from terrorism.
He also said that the Kingdom has provided shelters for nearly two-and-a-half million Syrian refugees in a bid to preserve their dignity and ensure their safety by granting them full residency permits, free access to medical care and employment. The total aid provided by the Kingdom to the refugees amounted to US$700 million and the support still continues.
The Ambassador of Saudi Arabia to Brunei Darussalam, Hisham bin Abdul Wahab Zar’ah, also took the opportunity to extend his sincere greetings to His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam and the brotherly people of Brunei on the occasion of the blessed Aidiladha.

“Special congratulations to His Majesty for his 69th birthday. I wish him immaculate health and everlasting happiness and to his country more progress and prosperity,” he added.
Hisham also expressed his sincere thanks to His Majesty and His Majesty’s government for all the support provided to facilitate the business of the embassy and to their commitment to overcome present day difficulties.
Praising the relationship between the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and Brunei Darussalam, the ambassador described it as ‘brotherly and intimate’.
The reception also saw a presentation of video clips on the future development of the Kingdom. This was followed by a ceremonial cake cutting by the guest of honour and the ambassador together with invited guests.
The dinner reception yesterday was attended by other senior government officials, various diplomats from foreign missions in the country and other invited guests.
The reception began with the national anthems of both countries and the recitation of verses of the Al-Quran.
