THE current haze condition is expected to improve this week.

The Meteorological Department said the low level southwesterly winds would be weakening over the Borneo region.

“This will result in not only the improvement to horizontal visibility, but also to rainfall and thunderstorms, particularly during the day,” it said.

This wet spell is expected to be temporary as there is a chance of haze conditions returning as the prevailing southwesterly winds are expected again towards mid-October.

“As for the weather outlook for the rest of October, the country is expected to transit to inter-monsoon period which roughly spans up to November. During this transition period, the weather over the country is greatly influenced by the diurnal forcings, with the local wind effects playing a pivotal role in producing thunderstorm activities,” the department said in a press statement.

Meanwhile, the typical weather pattern during this month and until November is the formation of thunderstorms over the inland areas during the afternoon and in coastal and sea areas during the night.

The rainfall amount for October and November is likely to be in the range of slightly below normal to normal.
