Tutong showcases its tourism potential

SEVERAL tour operators and other stakeholders in the tourism industry gathered in Tutong yesterday for business matching exercises.

It was part of the ‘Destination Tutong’ initiative envisioned by the Tutong District Office for tourism promotion in the district.

The programme is in tandem with the Ministry of Home Affairs’ One Village One Product initiative (OVOP) for the country’s economic empowerment and aims to help spur the community and private sector’s involvement in the tourism industry.

Tutong District has massive potential to become a major tourism destination as there are more than 30 places of interest.

Before embarking on a journey to visit landmark attractions in Tutong, the delegation assembled at the lobby of the Tutong District Office as Wardi bin Haji Mohammad Ali, the Tutong District Officer delivered his welcoming remark in his capacity as the chief coordinator of the business matching exercise. A cultural show was also held to welcome the guests.

The guests then visited Sungai Basong Recreational Park, Bukit Ambok Highland, Tasbee Meliponiculture Farm, Badan Kebajikan Saudara-Saudara Baru Kampong Kiudang (BASKIM), Teh Herba 3MPK, Ladang Limau Manis, Bintudoh Green spring Resort and Kampong Tanjong Maya. Also accompanying the delegation were Haji Khairuddin bin Haji Abdul Hamid, Deputy Permanent Secretary (Industrial Development and Entrepreneurship) at the Ministry of Industry and Primary Resources and Haji Idris bin Haji Mohd Ali, Deputy Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Home Affairs.

The district officer hoped that the visit session will help promote the destinations in Tutong among domestic as well as foreign travellers.

One of the delegation participants from Syarikat Raudah al-Amin Sdn Bhd, Haji Abdul Rahman bin Mat, expressed his delight over the initiative and hoped the ‘Destination Tutong’ package will further be expanded to other agencies to promote it among international travellers.

A satisfied Siti Nurul Sarina binti Abdullah from Az Back To Nature Tour Service suggested that the various potential destinations in Tutong could be packaged together.
