THE Royal Brunei Armed Forces (RBAF) yesterday held a career roadshow at the Sengkurong Community Hall for students from across various schools in the area.

Held in conjunction with the RBAF’s 55th anniversary, the roadshow adopts a ‘Try, Look and Feel’ concept which allows students the chance to try the equipment available at each booth to get a taste of what it would be like to be in the army.

Present as the guest of honour was Colonel Hafizul bin Awang Hassan, Acting Commandant of the Combat Support Service of the Royal Brunei Armed Forces.

The roadshow set its sights on giving students exposure to the career options at RBAF and scholarships from the Ministry of Defence, to change the stereotypical perception of how the army is only about war, and to use a pedagogy concept to prepare students with life learnt lessons that include exposure to the working culture.

Such matter hopes to help students make informed decisions on their future career choices.

The event began with an opening speech by 767 Major Mohammad Azhan Haji Ahmad, the Dental Administrative Officer in his capacity as the chairman of the RBAF career roadshow, followed by briefings by officers of the Royal Brunei Land Forces, the Royal Brunei Navy, the Royal Brunei Air Force, Medical Services, and the RBAF Recruitment Unit.

The briefings included information on each unit, the interesting aspects of each unit, challenges that need to be faced when going into the unit, qualifications and courses needed, and the challenges and success of an army personnel or officer.

Later, the students visited the exhibition booths of each unit, where a variety of equipment and gadgets were prepared for students to put on and try out.

The invited schools were Sayyidina Husain Secondary School, Sayyidina Hasan Secondary School, Masin Secondary School, Sayyidina Umar Secondary School, and Awang Semaun Secondary School.
