Attending as the guest of honour was Dr Haji Norarfan bin Haji Zainal, the Rector of Universiti Islam Sultan Sharif Ali (UNISSA).
The event started with a recitation of verses from the Al-Quran, by Muhammad Nur Hamizan bin Haji Yaakub. This was followed with the singing of the national anthem, and the school song, prior to some welcoming remarks from Hajah Norjainah binti Haji Buntar, the Acting Principal of SMALHB.
Dr Haji Norarfan, who also spoke at the event, said that the Islamic Religious Knowledge and Arabic Language skills possessed by the students of SMALHB were valuable assets in helping to preserve the country’s religious harmony.
He also emphasised the fact that Islam encourages its followers to pursue lifelong learning, whether through formal or informal education.
“As citizens and residents of Brunei Darussalam, we should be grateful because the government of His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, has provided various platforms and facilities for its citizens to further their studies to a higher level, be it within the country or abroad,” he said.
He also called upon the students to make use of every available opportunity to further their studies, and contribute to the country’s development.
The event continued with a Tausyeh performance, from the PRA-U1 and PRA-U2 students of SMALHB.
Afterwards, there was a presentation of certificates by the guest of honour, in addition to a Special Award and Excellent Student Award.
