THE first day of the Mass Blood Donation Campaign by the Ministry of Health (MoH), organised in conjunction with the World Blood Donors Day 2016, was held last night at the Al-‘Afiah Hall of the ministry.
The event was held at night to give opportunity to blood donors who missed out or were fasting during daytime. The campaign will be held again on June 18, at the Blood Donation Centre, Raja Isteri Pengiran Anak Saleha (RIPAS) Hospital, and registration will open at 8.30pm until 10.30pm.
Hidayatul Batrisyah, a first time donor, said, “At first I was expecting it to be very painful, but then I found out that it was bearable. I don’t mind being a regular blood donor in the future.”
While Haji Salleh bin Seruji, who is a regular blood donor, said that he donates blood whenever he can, so he can contribute to a noble cause. “Some people are scared of the needles, but honestly it doesn’t hurt and they will be doing themselves a favour as it is good for the body and they will be doing a huge favour to those who need blood,” he said.
The campaign will also be held on July 2 at the lobby of the Pengiran Muda Mahkota Pengiran Muda Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah Hospital, Tutong, from 8.30pm to 10.30pm; on July 14 at KB Sentral, Kuala Belait, from 10am to 2pm; and on July 28 at the Bangar Youth Centre, Temburong, from 9am to 11.30am.
The campaign was held to raise awareness on the importance of donating blood through volunteerism without hoping for anything in return.
The campaign also aimed to increase blood stock at the Blood Donation Centre during the month of Ramadhan.
