IN CONJUNCTION with the holy month of Ramadhan, more than 3,000 local youths from government agencies, youth associations, students and former participants of youth programmes yesterday gathered for the Nationwide Youth Tedarus Al-Quran 1437H/2016.
The event took place simultaneously at the Jame’ ‘Asr Hassanil Bolkiah in Kiarong for male youths and Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Mosque in the capital for the female youths.
Present to grace the event at Jame’ ‘Asr Hassanil Bolkiah was His Royal Highness Prince ‘Abdul Malik. Upon arrival, His Royal Highness was greeted by the Minister of Religious Affairs, Pehin Udana Khatib Dato Paduka Seri Setia Ustaz Haji Awang Badaruddin bin Pengarah Dato Paduka Haji Awang Othman and the Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports, Pehin Datu Lailaraja Major General (Rtd) Dato Paduka Seri Haji Awang Halbi bin Haji Mohd Yussof. Also present were the deputy ministers, permanent secretaries and deputy permanent secretaries.
The event began with the recitation of Surah Al-Fatihah led by Sadun bin Suhaili followed by the Khatam Al-Quran ceremony led by the students of the Institut Tahfiz Al-Quran Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah (ITQSHHB). It then continued with the recitation of Takhtim and Dikir Marhaban by the Dikir Group of Universiti Islam Sultan Sharif Ali (UNISSA) and the Doa Allah Peliharakan Sultan prior to a mass Zohor prayer that marked the end of the ceremony.
Held simultaneously at the Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Mosque, the ceremony was graced by Her Royal Highness Princess Hajah Majeedah Nuurul Bolkiah. Her Royal Highness was welcomed by Datin Hajah Kalshom binti Haji Suhaili, the spouse of the Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports; and Datin Hajah Shireen binti Haji Mustapha, Senior Special Duties Officer at the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports (MCYS).
The religious gathering began with the recitation of Surah Al-Fatihah led by Dayangku Siti Ummi Syazana binti Pengiran Haji Marjuki followed by the Khatam Al-Quran ceremony also led by the students of ITQSHHB and the recitation of Takhtim and Dikir Marhaban by Azzahra Group. It then ended with the reading of Doa Allah Peliharakan Sultan and mass Zohor prayer.
The objectives of the event were to raise awareness among the participating youths on the recitation and appreciation of the holy Al-Quran as their guidance in life as well as to improve and strengthen the understanding and cooperation between relevant agencies in youth development.
From the event, it is hoped that it will encourage more youth participation in religious activities that will later guide them in facing future challenges.
The event was organised by the MCYS and supported by the Department of Youth and Sports.
