“MY PASSION for entrepreneurship began when I was studying at Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBD). I started by direct selling items to my colleagues, friends and families, and grew from a small business to where I am now – with my own effort and money,” said Sabrina binti Hussein, a former relief teacher and now the owner of De’Violet Boutique, which was launched yesterday at Pengkalan Gadong Building in Jalan Batu Bersurat.
Her current product line covers clothing for men, women and babies, including trendy headscarves, dresses and accessories.
“Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) has urged us to be involved in business… This has encouraged me to become a businesswoman,” she said.
Sabrina binti Hussein added that her motivation was also strengthened by the titah of His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, who said that Bruneians must step away from their comfort zones and not rely on the government sector for employment, while the younger generation must be prepared to face challenges that lie ahead.
“Our boutique also provides cubes for rent which aims to provide small businesses an opportunity to sell their items,” she added.
“There are many smaller businesses in Brunei – some of them run by graduates from higher institutions, and I advise them not to give up… Insya Allah, with hard work and confidence, they can be successful entrepreneurs in the future.”
