This was followed by a presentation of souvenirs in the form of mini books titled ‘Let’s Eat’ to owners of selected restaurants featuring menus in Malay.

According to Hajah Nortijah, the mini books can be used as references for proper Malay words for their menus.

The DBP will also select several schools to receive pledges to prioritise the use of the national language.

Established in 1961, the Language and Literature Bureau has been upholding the Malay Language as the Sultanate’s official language.

The bureau hopes to empower the Malay Language as well as promote the reading culture in the country by focusing on the four key areas of language, literature, publishing and library.

The celebration of Language Month will continue in the Tutong District on August 13, Temburong District on September 3 and Belait District on September 10.
