BELAIT Police District with other law enforcement agencies yesterday conducted a joint operation to prevent sales of firecrackers and explosive fireworks simultaneously in three areas: Kuala Belait, Wisma Yakin Pandan Building and Sungai Liang area.
The operation from 10am until 12 noon did not find any fire-crackers or explosives for sale.
The selling, owning, making or playing of firecracker or any explosive of fireworks have been prohibited based on Chapter 58 of the Firearms and Explosive Materials Act of Brunei Darussalam, Section 15.
Anyone found breaking the law can be jailed for a period of no less than five years and up to 15 years, with a minimum of three lashes and a fine of $3,000.
