34 offences recorded in two-day traffic operation

SOME 34 traffic offences were recorded during a two-day police operation in the Brunei-Muara and Belait districts aimed at promoting road safety as thousands of commuters are expected on the roads during the upcoming Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebration.

‘Ops Tegas 6’, coordinated by the Traffic Control and Investigation Department (JSKLL) of the Royal Brunei Police Force (RBPF) on Friday and Saturday, saw roadblocks set up in the new Telisai-Lumut Highway and also four locations at the Tungku Highway towards Muara-Tutong Highway, Tungku Highway towards Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Highway, Muara-Tutong Highway and Jalan Damuan highway.

During the operation in the new Telisai-Lumut Highway, 10 docket fines were issued for offences such as expired drivers’ licence and road tax, and unauthorised drivers’ licence class.

Meanwhile 20 compound fines were issued for offences such as not displaying the road tax sticker on the windscreen, unauthorised licence plate specification, worn-out tyres, illegal modifications, unauthorised headlight colour and overloaded pick-up trucks.

The Belait District operation on Friday and Saturday led by Sgt Duraman bin Haji Ering involved 10 JSKLL Personnel from the Batu 3, Belait District Branch.

Meanwhile the operation in the Brunei-Muara District yesterday involved some 91 JSKLL personnel and was led by DSP Mohd Fathdillah bin Haji Abdul Hamid.

The traffic enforcement drive looks out for traffic offences that commonly lead to road accidents, especially involving deaths.

Last year, two road fatalities were recorded in the same period leading up to the Hari Raya celebration.
