THE Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade, Dato Paduka Awang Haji Erywan bin Pehin Dato Pekerma Jaya Haji Mohd Yusof, yesterday signed the condolence book at the Embassy of the Republic of Turkey in Brunei Darussalam, in the wake of the recent terrorist attacks in Istanbul.
The Ambassador of the Republic of Turkey to Brunei Darussalam, Fikret Oguz Ates, welcomed the deputy minister and senior officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade, to the embassy.
Other emissaries included the Acting High Commissioner of the Republic of Pakistan to Brunei Darussalam, Ahmed Ali Sirohey, and the First Secretary of the State of Kuwait to Brunei Darussalam, Tareq Al-Yassin.
The Turkish ambassador also had brief chats with the deputy minister and other foreign emissaries.

In a brief interview, Fikret Oguz Ates expressed his outrage on the Istanbul airport attack, saying that present-day terrorism has no boundaries, in reference to recent similar attacks in Paris and Bangladesh.
The ambassador also vowed that the Turkish Government and the people of Turkey would not capitulate to terrorism, and that life would go on, despite the tragedy.
He went on to express his hope that the attacks would not deter Bruneians from their view of Turkey as a perfect holiday spot, adding that Turkey has always maintained good relations with the Brunei Government and its people.
