TOTAL E&P Borneo BV yesterday celebrated its Hari Raya open house for its partners, stakeholders, industry players, clients and guests at Tarindak D’Seni, Bandar Seri Begawan hosted by Yves Grosjean, the outgoing General Manager of Total E&P Borneo BV.
Grosjean will be departing the Sultanate on July 25 after serving the company for almost 17 years. The company’s new General Manager, Vincent Dutel was also introduced during the ceremony.
“It has been a very interesting and active time where on the whole, we have been able to attract more Bruneians to join our team,” said Grosjean.
At the moment there are about 70 Bruneians joining the company compared to 40 when he arrived in the country.
“We do not have a big team, but after changing our organisation and activities, we were able to attract more people to our team. In addition, I am proud of retaining the safety record we have. We reached more than 17 years of Zero Loss Time Injuries (LTI),” he said.
“With the discovery of the southern side of the Maharaja Lela Oilfield in 2008, we are about to do further appraisal projects on the wells that we drilled to make sure that we have enough resources to launch our new project,” said the outgoing general manager. “It was a bit challenging when there were two oil rigs being drilled at the same time. We had to change the organisation; the success of Maharaja Lela HSE ensured further production at higher levels allowing production for at least 20 more years.”

“When I arrived in the Sultanate, production was estimated to be until 2019. But production has now extended beyond 2039. It was also anticipated that production would start dropping in 2013. But with the new discoveries, we were able to increase production up to 30 per cent since last October 2015,” he added.
Meanwhile, the incoming General Manager, Vincent Dutel, in his interview with the Bulletin shared that Total has quite a long history producing oil for almost 25 years now.
“We have just completed the new phase with the installation of the jacket of the third platform of the Maharaja Lela Jamalulalam (MLJ-3) field,” he said. “We need to continue to achieve more in order to increase the production capacity and we are still working on potential exploration.”
“We know that the timing is a bit difficult for oil and gas companies. We are even struggling internally when we want to attain approval for additional work and exploration because we are in competition with opportunities with the rest of the world,” he added.
“Our objective is now to work on that, identify new prospects, reduce cost basis to make all projects become economically viable and continue to develop and expand in Brunei.”
