THE three-day Youth Against Poverty (YAP) Workshop, which was organised by the Society for Community Outreach and Training (SCOT), came to an end yesterday with a prize and certificate presentation ceremony for the participants at the Youth Centre’s Silaturrahim Hall in Bandar Seri Begawan.
At the event, Team Cakah members – Dayangku Hanna Afiqah binti Pengiran Hassanal Ali Saifuddien, Bazeelah Rafaea, Mathew Chong Chee Cheong and Mohamad Riszwan bin Haji Moksin – were presented with a $500 grant after coming up with the most creative and innovative idea during the workshop.
The grant was presented by the Acting Chairman of SCOT, Md Khairul Azmi bin Haji Mohd Salleh, who later also presented certificates to the participants.
In an interview with 22-year-old Dayangku Hanna Afiqah, an undergraduate at Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBD), she expressed gratitude and contentment after her team received the grant.
According to the undergraduate, their idea was to establish an online platform or website to facilitate its users and others who wish to make donations to the less fortunate.

With the grant, she hopes that they can turn their idea into a reality with the assistance and guidance of SCOT as well as other relevant authorities and agencies across the nation.
She added that if the idea is well-received in the future, the team wishes to expand the assistance to other countries, such as Kuala Lumpur and so forth.
The YAP Workshop was intended to educate and empower local youth leaders to have a better understanding on the issue of poverty in Brunei.
