THE members of Brunei Council on Social Welfare (MKM) recently visited the Jerudong Prison.
MKM Honourable Secretary, Hamidah Lakem, said the organisation is indirectly involved with the welfare of those whose spouse are in prison, a press release said.
The Jerudong Prison provides the minimum standard of living /treatment to the prisoners remanded while at the same time attempt to reform them by involving the prisoners in various vocational, spiritual, educational activities so that they can become useful citizens of the country after their release.
During the visit, the delegation saw replicas of the actual prison, as well as a demonstration of canning. Works of the inmates were also shown in a mini showroom.
The delegation hoped that the public would not negatively mark released prisoners as ex-convict but treat them as ordinary human beings, and for their family to support them in returning to a normal life.
