THE Sultan Sharif Ali (SSA) Mosque in Sengkurong held a 70 times Khatam Al-Quran ceremony yesterday, marking the 70th birthday celebrations of His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam.
Present as the guest of honour was Datin Hajah Zalina binti Haji Omar, the spouse of Dato Paduka Awang Haji Abdul Mokti bin Haji Mohd Daud, the Deputy Minister of Religious Affairs.
Participating in the religious event were Muslimah groups from 13 mosques who had begun their Al-Quran reading last May.
According to Imam Haji Hamdini bin Haji Garip, the ceremony has been an annual activity since 2012 at the mosque, to mark His Majesty’s birthday and to promote Al-Quran reading among Muslimah groups across the country.
