IN ITS bid to continuously innovate, Telekom Brunei Berhad (TelBru) yesterday introduced the prepaid service for its popular nationwide WiFi service in public areas, giving communities across Brunei easier access to Internet broadband service with speeds of up to 5mbps per device.
Details of the latest offering were yesterday announced by TelBru Chief Marketing Officer Lim Ming Soon at a press conference held at The Coffee Bean of Brunei International Airport.
Also in attendance were TelBru Chief Executive Officer David Kay and other officials.
Individuals keen on connecting to any of TelBru’s nationwide WiFi services, with currently over 80 sites and growing, can purchase affordable prepaid pins online by simply connecting to ‘TelBru WiFi’ network.
This will enable access to purchase options in denominations of $3 for ‘One-Day Unlimited,’ three-day access for $5 with 1GB of data, or 500MB for three days at $3.
Not limited to the country’s residents, this WiFi service is available to tourists in the country, making data connectivity convenient and affordable. Located at various commercial areas throughout the Sultanate, the service is an extension of TelBru’s Free WiFi and Postpaid WiFi service.
Interested individuals can purchase the prepaid pin through the user-friendly TelBru Wifi portal by means of credit card. TelBru also plans to offer prepaid scratch cards slated for introduction in the coming weeks.
Recapping the journey of TelBru’s WiFi for public places, he said, “We launched the trial WiFi in December 2015 for a test.

“March this year, meanwhile, witnessed the launch of its portable Postpaid WiFi service that enables subscribers to log in to TelBru’s WiFi hotspots with their home broadband subscription, consuming their home quota.
The WiFi service that runs on home broadband network gives users Internet access in public areas like restaurants, cafes, shopping centres using as low as 56 cents per GB consuming home data.
“As the premier telecommunications company in the country TelBru strives to develop innovative products and services to ensure the availability and accessibility of data over infrastructure that is reliable and secure.”
“Our pre-paid service provides customers with options as we emulate the comforts of broadband at home away from home, whilst keeping intact the integrity of TelBru’s Internet service,” the chief marketing officer explained.
On the active sites for TelBru nationwide WiFi, he said, “We started off with 20 sites available for the TelBru WiFi services during the trial and then we grew to 50 active sites during the launch. Currently, we have 81 active sites with 10 sites currently in progress. By the end of this year, we are expecting around 100 active sites,” he added.
Since the introduction of Auto Log in, he also revealed “We have five times more number of connections in the thousands per day.”
TelBru also offers free 30 minutes or 500MB of free Internet access throughout its nationwide WiFi locations following the service launch in December last year, whilst one-hour Internet access is made available at the Brunei International Airport.
