THE Hassanal Bolkiah Mosque ‘Ibadurrahman’ Youth Group yesterday organised a mass recitation of the Al-Quran, joining millions of other Muslims around the world in celebrating ‘World Quran Hour.’
Over 100 youths and members of the local community took part in the event at the Hassanal Bolkiah Mosque.
World Quran Hour is an annual event held on 9th of Zulhijjah from 9am to 10am, where Muslims the world spend an hour reciting verses from the holy book, in hopes of uniting Muslims all over the world just as Haj pilgrims are gathering in the holy land.
The global event was organised in connection with the Wuquf in Arafah (one of the obligations during the Haj pilgrimage), during the first 10 days of the Islamic month of Zulhijjah, where Muslims are encouraged to augment their ‘amal ibadah’ (carrying Islamic obligations and good deeds, obedience, submission, and devotion to Allah the Almighty).
The event is also an effort to promote the reciting, understanding and practise of the teaching of the Al-Quran to produce Quran-minded Muslim ummah.
Taking the golden opportunity to organise the event, the Ibadurrahman Youth Group noted that the event was held with the objective of supporting the World Quran Hour cause, and to create a conducive platform for the development of ‘Rohaniah’ among youth.
The event began with mass Sunnat Hajat prayers at 8.30am and continued with a briefing on World Quran Hour, before the Mass Tilawah (Recitation) of the-Al Quran began at 9am.
