DUE to the recent Zika cases spreading in the neighbouring countries, the Universiti Islam Sultan Sharif Ali (UNISSA) has taken the initiative to conduct a cleaning campaign in order to eradicate the virus at its compound and residential college.
The event began with a talk on the Zika virus threat by Dr Nay Lin Htike, Public Health Officer from the Ministry of Health.
Also present were the Acting Rector of UNISSA, Dr Haji Mohammed Hussain bin Pehin Penyurat Haji Ahmad, Assistant Rector Dr Arman bin Haji Asmad, along with the other officers and students of UNISSA.
Dr Nay Lin Htike urged the students to always be on the lookout for Zika virus infection.
He also reminded that a clean environment is vital, and that the compound should be free from rubbish that can collect and hold water, which may lead to more breeding grounds for mosquitoes.
He further reminded them that prevention is much better than cure.
The campaign was conducted to create more awareness in regards to the Zika virus, as well as for the students to preserve and protect the environment around them.
Over 200 students attended the talk and the cleaning campaign around campus.
