A TOTAL of 23 readers from all four districts participated in the finals of the Al-Quran memorisation and interpretation competition yesterday, for mukim and village consultative councils and mosque takmir committees.
The religious event was held at the Tutong Civic Centre Complex, to mark the 70th birthday celebrations of His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam.
The competition was divided into six categories. In Category ‘A’ for boys, the winner was Ahmad Huzaifah bin Haji Awang Hasbi from the Brunei-Muara District, followed by Muhammad Nur Rahim bin Abdul Sufian from Belait in second place, and Ibni Zahra’ Hijriyah bin Haji Zaini from Tutong in third place.
In Category ‘B’ for girls, the winner was Nur Amerra Hafeezah binti Shahrimi from Tutong, followed by Wafa Imani binti Dr Haji Gamal Abdul Nasir from Brunei-Muara in second place, and Latifah Hannani binti Haji Md Jini from Temburong in third.
In Category ‘C’ for male adolescents, the winner was Abdul Wafiy bin Haji Abdul Kadiroshman from Tutong, with Abdul Qawiy bin Haji Mat Yamin from Brunei-Muara in second place, and Muhammad Syafiq Iskandar bin Abdullah from Temburong in third.
In Category ‘D’ for female adolescents, the winner was Nor Hamizah binti Aji from Temburong, with Siti Norajimah binti Haji Hamdani from Brunei-Muara coming in second, and Fatin Norhanani binti Haji Mohdar from Tutong in third place.

In Category ‘E’ for male adults, the winner was Haji Mohd Asri’ bin Haji Timbang from Temburong, followed by Abdul Rashid bin Haji Hamdan from Tutong in second place, and Haji Samry bin Haji Mohammad Ya’akub from Brunei-Muara in third place.
In Category ‘F’ for female adults, the winner was Noriah binti Tuah from Brunei-Muara, followed by Hajah Norzirwatul Fadhillah binti Haji Puteh from Belait in second place, and Dayangku Nur Ajaimah binti Pengiran Ajak from Temburong in third place.
On hand to witness the finals and present prizes to the winners was Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Kerna Dato Seri Setia (Dr) Haji Awang Abu Bakar bin Haji Apong, the Minister of Home Affairs.
Also present during the final rounds of the competition were Haji Idris bin Haji Ali and Haji Mohammad Sunadi bin Haji Buntar, the Deputy Permanent Secretaries at the Ministry of Home Affairs; and Haji Harun bin Haji Junid and Roslan bin Haji Taja’ah, the Deputy Permanent Secretaries at the Ministry of Religious Affairs.
