KIA Motors Corporation, through Grand Motors Sdn Bhd, its sole distributor in Brunei Darussalam, yesterday afternoon handed over a brand new Kia Optima to the Institute of Brunei Technical Education (IBTE) School of Energy and Engineering Central to serve as a training vehicle for students of the IBTE Mechanical Campus.
With a brand new Kia Optima as a training vehicle, the students can gain a better understanding of the features and technologies of the car to be prepared for actual work in the future.
Steve Lee, President of Kia Motors Corporation-Asia Regional Headquarters, along with Frankie Ho, Managing Director of Grand Motors as well as Haji Shaiful Rizal bin Pehin Dato Dr Haji Ahmad, Executive of Grand Motors, handed over the car to Dr Sheikh Lukman bin Sheikh Abdul Hamid, Principal of IBTE Central.
Dr Sheikh Lukman in his speech said, “IBTE School of Energy and Engineering Central and Grand Motors Sdn Bhd have a long history of partnership. I think it is safe to say that they are one of the pioneering automotive industries in Brunei to collaborate with our training institution since the early 2000s.”
Concerning the support the company has given to the institute, he said, “You have been accommodating not only to our school, but also to our students and graduates as well; your company has always been open to the idea of employing our local graduates from our automotive programme and have always favoured to employ them.

“As a member of the programme development education committee, Grand Motors has also contributed a vast amount of their technical knowledge in developing the automotive curriculum and played a crucial role in giving formative input and information regarding the exponentially changing automotive technologies to be integrated within the curriculum,” he added.
Meanwhile, Steve Lee in his remark said, “The donation ceremony is a meaningful moment for Kia Motors since this may be the first of its kind in Brunei Darussalam.
Through the activity, he said, “I believe we can build a strong friendship between the Bruneian Society and Kia Motors.
“The Kia Optima represents Kia’s trust towards groundbreaking design and technology.
“With its turnover to IBTE, we are hopeful that the future generation of technicians will learn more about today’s technology and apply such knowledge in pursuing their career paths,” said Frankie Ho.
