IN LINE with His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam’s recent titah that called for more follow-up action in preventing Zika cases, the Kolej International Graduate Studies (KIGS), in collaboration with the Ministry of Health, held a Zika virus awareness talk yesterday afternoon.
The talk was given by a medical officer from the Disease Control Division of Ministry of Health (MoH) who touched on the origin and transmission of the virus and the steps to prevent the spread of Zika.
The talk highlighted preventative steps such as avoiding mosquito bites, wearing light-coloured clothes (as dark coloured clothing attracts mosquitoes more) and avoiding non-essential travel to Zika-affected countries, especially for pregnant women.
The public should also take precautions in their living environment by removing mosquito breeding sites, getting rid of stagnant water found in items and places such as tyres, manholes, rubbish area and flower-plants.
