TUTONG District’s Language and Literature Bureau, Arts and Cultural Body Section (B2K) recently handed over books published by the body to 24 primary schools in the district during a ceremony held at the Tutong District Government Department Building.

Six books were donated which include four poetry books contributed by the former President of B2K Tutong, the late Haji Yahya bin Bendahari Haji Ghafar; a book on the Gema Puisi Merdeka seminar by Dr Chong Ah Fok, Head of B2K Tutong; and a book on the history of the establishment of B2K.

Present as guest of honour to hand over the books to principals and representatives of the schools was Haji Zulkifli bin Haji Ahmad, Cluster 5 Officer of the Tutong Schools Department.

According to Dr Chong Ah Fok, the books were handed over so that the works of local writers can be read and enjoyed by students.

He hopes that the poetry books in the collection will be portrayed in a pantomime performance or a sketch.

“Malay language teachers can use the poems in their teaching to students. In addition, the books will encourage more creative thinking among the students,” he added.
