MALAYSIA’S annual year-end shopping event is back and set to run until December 31, offering shoppers attractive bargains and exciting programmes throughout the country.

1Malaysia Year-End Sale (1MYES) was officially launched yesterday at the Freeport A’Famosa outlet in Alor Gajah, Melaka, by Deputy Minister of Tourism and Culture Malaysia Datuk Hajah Mas Ermieyati binti Samsudin.

The launch was also attended by Tourism Exco and Melaka State representatives, tourism industry players and retailers, as well as 27 foreign media personnel brought in by Tourism Malaysia under the Mega Fam Programme. The media personnel were flown in from Brunei, China, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Republic of Mauritius, Singapore and Thailand.

The highlight of this year’s 1MYES is ‘A Journey through Time,’ an exclusive event showcasing luxury timepieces and jewellery. The event will be held from November 4-13 at Starhill Gallery.

It is also the best time to enjoy Malaysian food, from local street fares to Malaysia Truly Asia’s melting pot of delicacies and east-meets-west gastronomic delights.

Exciting events and activities have also been lined up at participating malls and retail outlets. With Christmas and New Year theme-related activities taking centrestage, promotions and cultural performances, tourists can get the best out of shopping in Malaysia through privileges and rewards, free items and gift redemptions, as well as GST refund.

The year-end sales have helped boost tourist expenditures in the country and bring numerous benefits to local retailers.

Malaysia has three annual nationwide sales campaigns – 1Malaysia Super Sale in March, 1Malaysia Mega Sale Carnival in June till August and 1Malaysia Year-End Sale.

In 2015, the shopping sector surpassed the accommodation sector for the first time to become the biggest contributor to Malaysia’s tourist expenditures. It constituted RM21.6 billion (31.3 per cent) of the total tourist receipts of RM69.1 billion.

Malaysia’s shopping sector has also earned international accolades: Kuala Lumpur as The World’s 5th Best Shopping Destination 2016 by Expedia UK, and Kuala Lumpur as the 2nd World Top Shopping City by the Muslim Travel Shopping Index 2015.
