Instilling nationalism through guided entertainment in school

THE Nationhood Unit at the Nationhood and Community Division of the Information Department hosted its Rakan Remaja Programme at the multipurpose hall of the Yayasan Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Secondary School, which saw the presence of 150 Year 9 and Year 10 students.

In attendance as the guest of honour was Acting Senior Special Duties Officer at the Minister of Education Office, Ministry of Education, Siti Zuliana binti Haji Abdul Samad.

The programme also saw the attendance of teaching and administration staff of the school. The event began with the singing of the national anthem and patriotic song ‘Bendera Negara’, which was joined by the Year 9 and 10 students, followed by the recitation of Surah Al-Fatihah and Doa Selamat and welcoming remarks by Principal Chong Li Chen.

Yesterday’s programme featured a video presentation on ‘Kibarkan Bendera Dengan Megah’ and a talk on appreciating the national flag and national anthem by Assistant Information Officer Hajah Noorhijrah binti Haji Idris.

Enlivening the event were performances, quizzes and video presentations.

The Rakan Remaja Programme targets youths particularly school students in disseminating current news with the objectives to ensure that they are aware of latest developments in the nation, instil the spirit of nationhood and social responsibilities among youths.

The programme also serves to make the students agents in disseminating positive and effective information to their friends and to raise civic awareness and the spirit of nationalism among youths towards the building of positive minds and morals.
