THE Ministry of Health (MoH) yesterday held a Breast Cancer Awareness event at the Health Promotion Centre (HPC) which carried the theme ‘Your Health is in Your Hands.’

Held in conjunction with Breast Cancer Awareness month, the event included a motivational briefing delivered by a representative from The Brunei Cancer Centre (TBCC), counselling on breast care and Breast Screening Examination (BSE).

Fifty participants comprising HPC staff and public members turned up for the event, allowing them the opportunity to observe the breast cancer exhibition and participate in the ‘Zumba Pink.’

Breast Cancer Awareness Month looks to raise awareness on the importance of breast cancer prevention among women through health education on risk factors and BSE, early detection and treatment through regular check-ups, and providing moral support to breast cancer sufferers, including palliative care.

Over the past 10 years in Brunei, breast cancer was detected in 542 women, eventually claiming the lives of 120 of them.

According to the Brunei Darussalam Cancer Registry, 81 per cent or 438 women were stricken by the disease between the age bracket of 35 to 64 years.

The Breast Cancer Awareness campaign is supported by CANDAS Creative Company, a creative company that brings awareness messages through social media platforms such as Facebook and Instagram @candascreative.
