A ROADSHOW to raise public awareness on the procedures for the import and export of agricultural and food commodities under the control of the Ministry of Primary Resources and Tourism, continued in the Tutong District yesterday.

The roadshow provided information on the procedures to import and export agricultural products and related materials such as fertilisers, agriculture chemicals and domestic animals, among others.

The roadshow briefing aims to clarify on matters pertaining to the procedures for permit application or import and export licence.

It also enlightened attendees on the importance of abiding or fulfilling the requisites to facilitate import and export of agricultural and fishery commodities for individual or commercial needs.

It also aims to reduce cases of non-compliance in import and export stipulated by the Department of Agriculture and Agrifood, and Department of Fisheries; with such cases having occurred at the control posts at land entry points, at the airport, ports and through air mail.

The requisites for the import and export for the agricultural and fishery commodities are based on the International Sanitary and Phytosanitary (SPS) guidelines stipulated by the World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE), International Plant Protection Convention (IPPC) and CODEX Alimentarius.

Similar to previous roadshows held in the Brunei-Muara District, the briefing encompassed matters pertaining to obtaining Veterinary Health Certificate and Phytosanitary Certificate from the authority at the exporting countries.

The documents constitute an endorsement or assurance of exporting countries that agricultural or fishery commodities exported to Brunei Darussalam are safe and free from any disease agents and pests.

Apart from the import permit or licence, this document is also very important to be included while declaring agriculture and fisheries commodities at the control posts.

Generally, permits or import licences are issued subject to the type of commodities or goods to be imported and the purpose of import.

For the import of agricultural and fishery commodities commercially, applications for import licences can be executed through BDNSW (Brunei Darussalam National Single Window) by visiting the website at www.bdnsw.gov.bn.

For private import, the public can apply for permit or import licence through online methods via http://biz.bruneimiprgov.bn/eMIPR or www.mprt.gov.bn.

Documents of approved import licence will be issued by the government agencies concerned and the public can collect it at designated places after settling the fee.

The roadshow, held at the Ministry of Primary Resources and Tourism, was attended by entrepreneurs in agriculture and fisheries, importers of agricultural and fishery commodities residing in the Brunei-Muara District, representatives from government departments as well as village heads and members of village consultative councils in the Brunei-Muara District.

The roadshow will be extended to other districts in the near future.
