AS PART of its drive to enhance career opportunities for students, Universiti Brunei Darussalam through its School of Business and Economics (UBD SBE) has renewed the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) accreditation for students taking the Accounting and Finance programme.
ACCA is a global accountancy body with more than 188,000 fully qualified members, who are considered chartered accountants.
With the accreditation renewal, students will have the opportunity to gain exemption from nine ACCA papers by the end of their studies, which goes some way to become a chartered certified accountant with an ACCA professional qualification.
This means instead of having to sit for 14 exams after their UBD degree, Accounting and Finance graduates will only have to study for five Professional Level papers.
Aside from the exam papers, any individuals interested to qualify as an ACCA member will need to have recorded at least 36 months’ experience in a relevant role, and undertaken the Professional Ethics module offered by ACCA.
UBD is one of the few academic institutions to gain the full nine-paper exemption from ACCA, and strives to work closer with professional associations and the industry, notably in ensuring the availability of chartered certified accountants in Brunei, as the country gears up to develop SMEs and in enhancing the role of accountants in the local economy.

Through UBD’s GenNEXT programme, the faculty also encourages students to learn beyond the campus, through practicum activities and the Discovery Year.
The programme provides the opportunity for students to enhance their knowledge and skills through incubation projects, community outreach projects, internship at established organisations or study abroad programmes at international partner universities.
