The term Wasatiyyah is derived from the Arabic root word, ‘wasat’, meaning ‘middle’; and it is used to describe the concept of living, doing and thinking in a fair and moderate way.
Dato Paduka Awang Haji Abdul Mokti bin Haji Mohd Daud, the Deputy Minister of Religious Affairs, said that the concept of Wasatiyyah should be encouraged among Bruneian youths, in order for them to elevate the country to great success in various fields and specialties.
He also said that youths with a keen awareness of the Wasatiyyah concept have great character traits and insight, which are helpful attributes when confronted with alien ideologies in contrast to the true teachings of Islam.
The panel at yesterday’s forum was generally composed of experts and scholars in Islamic studies and theology.
