SOME 2,000 individuals enjoyed a very colourful morning fun run yesterday at the SEAMEO Voctech for IKHLAS’ “Run with Colours” event, which managed to raise a total of $17,830 for the Special Education Unit’s IKHLAS drive and the Brunei Darussalam Paralympic Council.

On hand to signal the start of the 3-kilometre and 5-km run was the event’s guest of honour, Pehin Orang Kaya Indera Pahlawan Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Suyoi bin Haji Osman, the Minister of Education, who later also presented cheques to recipients.

“All these are aimed at overcoming learning barriers, and also to enhance the students’ accessibility and independence in schools.”

Salim bin Haji Puteh also thanked the SEAMEO Voctech Regional Centre for organising Ikhlas’ “Run with Colours”, as well as the participants for their support.

Prior to the start of the signal, both the guest of honour and participants joined in a 15-minute warm-up session conducted by instructors from Fitness Zone.

Also taking part was Pengiran Dato Paduka Haji Bahrom bin Pengiran Haji Bahar, the Deputy Minister of Education, as well as some senior officials from the MoE.

With its theme of “Run… Share and Care”, yesterday’s event saw runners doused with coloured powder (made from dyed corn starch) making their way to the finish line for the 3km and 5km races.

The SEAMEO Voctech IKHLAS’ “Run with Colours” is among several activities lined up for the celebration of the 50th anniversary of Southeast Asian Ministers of Education Organisation (SEAMEO), and the 25th SEAMEO Regional Centre for Vocational Education and Technical Education and Training (SEAMEO Voctech).

During the cheque presentation ceremony, students from the Special Education Unit also performed two songs using the sign language, which touched the hearts of all those who were present.

Additionally, there will also be an IKHLAS’ “Fun for Fund” event held on November 28 and 29 at The Mall in Gadong.

Proceeds from booth rentals will go to the IKHLAS’ fund, and potential vendors can call 2446553 for further details.
