GOVERNMENT enforcement agencies in the Belait District are actively monitoring business activities in the district.
During a recent spot-check, violations to the rules and regulations under the Building Control Act 2015 and the Town and Country Planning Act 1972 were discovered, which included constructing buildings and renovating premises without prior permission from the relevant authorities.
Violations with regard to the special conditions of land under the 1909 Land Code, Chapter 40, the conducting of businesses without a licence under the Business Licence Act 127, 2015, misuse of foreign workers and not adhering to the cleanliness standard inside and outside the business premises were also noted.
According to the statistical output, the number of business licences issued stood at 407. Of that figure, 52 new licences were issued since the Business License Act, Chapter 127, 2015 commenced on March 1, 2015.
The Belait District Office, Department of Electrical Services, Department of Town and Country Planning and Land Department remind land and building owners as well as traders to make the necessary applications through the relevant agencies and to abide by the laws and regulations in place.
Failing so could result in the temporary suspension of a business licence, or the withdrawal of the licence by the Belait District Office Licensing Section.
Traders keen on learning more about the application procedures and regulations can contact the respective departments.
