THE Global Satellite Navigation System (GNSS) and geospatial solution experts from Europe and Asia are currently attending a conference held here in the country to help the region’s industry players bridge the gap by identifying challenges as well as offering business networking opportunities and solutions in the geospatial field.

GNSS technologies offer a myriad of advantages and enable countless applications, from Location-Based Services (LBS) to road applications, maritime solutions and technologies for infrastructure management.

The 7th Multi-GNSS Asia Conference began at The Rizqun International Hotel in Gadong yesterday, featuring dozens of prominent speakers addressing various topics, such as innovative geospatial products and services, including GPS technology, the latest market trends and opportunities for international cooperation as well as the potential of GNSS applications in various fronts.

Over 100 experts from research institutes, government agencies, international organisations and industry players from the Asia-Pacific region and beyond are taking part in the three-day conference that revolves around the theme ‘Geospatial Challenges in the Asia-Pacific Region’.

A representative from one of the conference’s key organisers, Rainer Horn of GNSS Asia Coordinator and Managing Partner at Space Tec Partners, in his speech said that as the conference is being held in the Sultanate for the first time, they also hope to learn more about the application community here and help identify challenges.

They also hope to provide solutions not only to local industry players but also in the region on the technology’s use in everyday situations, such as emergencies, traffic congestion and weather situations.

Meanwhile, Justyna Redelkiewicz-Musial, another speaker who represents the European Global Navigation Satellite Systems Agency, which is funded by the European Union (EU) to promote the cooperation of European and Asian companies in the area of space and GNSS, said that one of the benefits Brunei could get from the conference is in the area of precision agriculture, which she explained, the country is interested in.

“This is why we are having a special session focussing on agricultural opportunities from GNSS technology in Brunei. The technology is also widely used in oil and gas applications,” she added.
