A GROWING number of Bruneians, particularly young working professionals, are signing up for gym membership, signalling a change in mindset and awareness on the importance of health and fitness.
This was yesterday pointed out by Wu Chun, a local celebrity who is also the Managing Director of Fitness Zone, the largest health club in Brunei.
A health and fitness enthusiast himself, Wu Chun noted this while speaking to the local media during a tour of Fitness Zone’s newly refurbished lounge area, conference room and other new facilities on its premises, located in the Kiulap commercial area.
As the new year draws closer, Fitness Zone is encouraging Bruneians to start 2016 with better health, a fit body and sound mind by signing up for new membership at a special rate of as low as $40 per month. This is available to the first 100 customers as part of a limited offer.
This is one way of extending thanks for the support Fitness Zone has received over the last 13 years of operations and in giving back to the community.
“We came up with this idea to give back, this time to our loyal members and the public, as a token of appreciation. I am really grateful that Fitness Zone has made it this far,” Wu Chun said.
“We also want to further introduce and get locals to experience the ‘magic’ of exercising, our world class facilities and excellent group exercise classes in an affordable way. When they become a part of the Fitness Zone family, educating and changing their lives through fitness are our main goal,” he said, vefore going on to add that the rise in non-communicable diseases such as cancer, diabetes and cardiovascular diseases in the country warrants for the public to pay greater attention to practicing a healthy lifestyle.
“The secret of getting ahead is getting started. It all starts within us,” Wu Chun stressed.
Meanwhile, Shelley Busque, Marketing and Executive Assistant of Wu Chun, said that Fitness Zone is also reinforcing its advocacy of fostering leadership in awareness for public health, promoting intersectional programmes and aiding to create sustainable awareness with health system in Brunei by opening its doors to the public by means of organising more events.
“Year 2016 will be another exciting year for us with exciting new programmes for kids, training for elite sport athletes as well as programmes such as ‘Silat’ (Malay art of self-defence), kick-boxing and other internationally popular programmes. We are really excited,” she said.
The new lounging area boasts a spacious, contemporary ambience on the top floor of the fitness club, with a scenic view of the Kiulap Commercial Area, perfect for members to unwind after a workout or for private functions.
The club is also opening a conference room complete with facilities for formal meetings.
Wu Chun also discussed the exciting new part to the renovation at the strength training area, which has been fitted with artificial turf, ensuring members feel as if they are training outdoors.
Fitness Zone is inviting the public to experience the club’s facilities and programmes on its open-day on December 19, and the ‘She Bams, He Jams Year Dance off party’ which will be held at the Multi Purpose Hall at 5:30pm on the same day.
