A TOTAL of 288 Royal Brunei Armed Forces (RBAF) personnel, consisting of in-service and retired personnel, with the consent of His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, received medals for long service and good conduct at an official Long Service and Good Conduct Award Ceremony held yesterday at the Ground Parade of the Training Institute in Penanjong Garrison.
On hand to present the medals to the recipients was the Commander of the RBAF, Pehin Datu Pekerma Jaya Major General Dato Paduka Seri Mohd Tawih bin Abdullah.
Also receiving the medals was the Deputy Permanent Secretary (Technology) at the Ministry of Defence, Captain (Rtd) Haji Mohammad Amirul Shahnoel bin Haji Mohammad Noeh.
The medals, which are a sign of appreciation to military personnel in the institution of defence, were awarded for meritorious service and recognition of service towards the religion, ruler and nation and for leading by good examples in giving excellent services with full dedication, integrity and dignity.
The awarding of the medals is in line with RBAF’s vision to enhance fine quality of human resources that will continue to strengthen the forces’ ability and prestige, and constantly ready in facing current challenges, technologically literate and possess a well-informed management and leadership skills.

As a defence institution, this award is also an encouragement to other members of the forces to continue to serve professionally and with excellence especially for the RBAF, and Brunei Darussalam in general.
Pehin Datu Pekerma Jaya Major General Dato Paduka Seri Mohd Tawih, in a speech said that this award ceremony was a moment RBAF personnel waited for, as it was a symbol of appreciation for their dedicated service by maintaining a high level of discipline and a clean service record.
He said this year the training institute was chosen as venue for the ceremony. The training institute is significant for RBAF personnel, both for those in service or those already retired and especially for recipients of the awards. Because for RBAF personnel it was where the military training and career started, where they were given military education and inculcated with RBAF core values of piety, loyalty, bravery and professional, obedience towards orders, respect towards the rule of law and ready to sacrifice in the name of the king, people and country.
He reminded the importance of maintaining the military tradition in the aspect of carrying out our work, sense of belonging, loyalty under the concept of Malay Islamic Monarchy.
He also reminded the titah of His Majesty during the 54th RBAF anniversary. His Majesty urged that all of the military people must strengthen their love to the institution while maintaining the good name and image of RBAF.
The Commander of the RBAF said it is the responsibility of all in the military to uphold this Titah to their best ability and effort in order to upgrade and maintain the credibility of RBAF either within, in eye of the citizens or in the regional and international eyes.
“All of it began and based from effective, dedicated, highly capable and disciplined personnel,” the commander said.
He congratulated the recipients of the awards, and hoped that it will encourage recipients to continue provide service with excellence and for those who are no longer in the military, uniformed or retired.
