The Ministry of Religious Affairs stated in a press release that the 12th of Rabiulawal signifies a historic date that the Islamic community worldwide eagerly anticipates as it marks the birth anniversary of Prophet Muhammad (pbuh).

Under the theme ‘Appreciating the Sunnah of Prophet Muhammad (pbuh)’, the nation organised religious functions for over 12 consecutive nights, mainly Dikir Syarafil Anam, as well as religious lectures and forums in the build-up to the Maulidur Rasul procession.

The Minister of Religious Affairs said in his speech that the Maulidur Rasul procession first came into prominence more than 60 years ago. He said that old pictures were found from 1954 carrying a caption which identifies a team from Kg Bakut China emerging in first place in a procession exhibition competition and receiving a silver trophy donated by Kebawah Duli Yang Maha Mulia Paduka Seri Baginda Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan.

“Alhamdulillah, the country continues this good practice by creating a more transparent outlook for the symbols of Islam which are conducive for peace and prosperity under the wise leadership of His Majesty,” he added.

Some 143 teams representing government ministries, secondary schools, higher learning institutions, the private sector, associations and mosque groups took part in the procession.
