TWO locals were caught in a joint operation when they allegedly tried to smuggle two bottles of beer into the country through the Kuala Lurah Control Post on New Year’s Eve.
The joint operation was carried out by the Royal Brunei Police Force (RBPF) with other enforcement agencies at the control post.
According to a statement from the police, the locals were referred to the prevention branch for further investigation.
During the two-and-a-half hour operation which ran from 10pm to 12.30am, another local was apprehended under suspicion of committing a customs offence by smuggling in two packets of chicken wings. In addition, there were two other cases of alleged smuggling and a seizure of a case of vegetables that was forwarded to the Department of Agriculture and Agrifood.
Around 18 police personnel from the Limau Manis Police Station led by the officer in charge were involved in the operation.
The RBPF carried out 18 stop and search procedures on vehicles and issued two compound fines as well as three police reminders to drivers.
