NINE locals were arrested for suspected gambling-related activities during a joint operation led by Assistant Superintendent of Police Ramzi Hayatina bin Dato Seri Setia Haji Ibrahim, Acting Assistant Officer Commanding Tutong Police District cum District Crime Officer of Tutong Police District, officers and personnel from Tutong Police Station and Anti-Vice Unit of Criminal Investigation Department.
The operation which took place on January 1, 2016 at 0007 hours was conducted on a house, suspected to be a gambling den, in Kampung Penanjong, Tutong District.
All the detained persons are currently investigated under Section 6(1) of the Common Gaming House Act, Chapter 28.
The maximum penalty for gambling at a gaming house is a fine of $10,000 and imprisonment of up to six months.
The house owner would be investigated under Section 4(a) of the Common Gaming House Act and the maximum penalty is a fine of $20,000 and imprisonment for up to 12 months.
