THE Fire and Rescue Department has recently conducted a three-day fire safety course for 24 staff of Radio Televisyen Brunei (RTB).
The participants were yesterday awarded their Fire Marshal Certificates at a ceremony held at the Fire and Rescue Department at the Old Airport. The guest of honour to present the certificates was Muhammad Noor Aflan bin Kachi, Assistant Superintendent of the Fire and Rescue Department, along with Rozita binti Haji Mohammad Kamis, Fire Marshall Course Coordinator.
The event commenced with the recitation of prayers followed by the presentation of certificates.
Speaking to the Bulletin, Rozita said that the main objectives of the training were to raise awareness and provide knowledge on fire prevention and safety measures needed in case of emergencies.
“This course is important because it can save lives and we will continue to conduct this training to members in the public and private sector, as well as non-governmental organisations (NGOs),” she said.

In an interview, Salmi binti Haji Abdul Karim, who trained as an Assistant Chief Fire Marshall, said, “As a Floor Manager at RTB, we are the last people to exit the building in case of a fire emergency because our responsibilities are focused on evacuating the building and to assist injured victims by ushering them to the assembly point.”
“The course was quite difficult because we the physical training were similar to that of the Fire and Rescue personnel, but overall it was a good experience and we can share the knowledge,” she continued. She also said that she enjoyed the course and would not hesitate to take part in any similar trainings in the future.
The Fire and Rescue Department has been conducting the three-day training course for a number of public and private sector institutions, namely government agencies, banks, secondary schools, higher learning institutions, NGOs as well as hospitals in the country.
